CONGRATULATIONS to Paul Howell and his group for bringing about a ‘touch of the seconds’ to Darlington council leader Stephen Harker concerning the closure of Darlington Library.

Cllr Harker has been the deputy leader of the council ever since the decision to close the library was first taken.

While the decision to retain the library is very welcome, surely Cllr Harker and all those who were involved in the decision to close the library should now be surcharged for every penny spent pushing their wrongful decision through the courts.

Now that the Cabinet is regretting its earlier decision to close the library, we can look forward to further reversals of town centre policies which will attract shoppers back to Darlington – why not cancel the £60,000 spent on eight rubbish bins and instead re-open the public toilets in the Market Place?
