STEVE KAY is right to say the figures on FixMyStreet are too bad to be true (HAS, Aug 7).

While FixMyStreet does submit reports directly to Stockton Council, it relies on its users to provide an update – so reports may appear unresolved online when often the reality is the council has already taken action.

Ultimately, we would always recommend that residents report issues to us directly instead of using third-party websites.

Doing so will generate a user reference number that can be used to track the council’s progress.

We always try to provide residents with a first-class service and recent surveys demonstrate high levels of public satisfaction across the borough.

Just last year, an independent MORI survey sent to more than 3,300 households found overall satisfaction with the council’s Highways and Transport services to be the highest in the country.

The council also ranked among the nation’s best in other areas, including efforts to reduce traffic congestion, roadwork management, highways maintenance and road surface conditions.

Those results are testament to the hard work put in by the council’s services 24/7 at a time when resources are extremely stretched.
