THAT the chief executive of Durham CCC should feel the need to describe Cameron Bancroft as “an outstanding young man” betrays a deep anxiety that Durham supporters, members and sponsors will take exception to his decision to employ a man who so disgracefully cheated and then attempted to cover up his actions.

How can such a man be “outstanding” and an example to others? Was he “outstanding” before the event? If so, how did he come to be a perpetrator?

It leaves a nasty taste in my mouth and I have written to the chief executive to tell him that I will not be renewing my membership next season.

I simply do not wish to watch him perform for Durham.
