WITH regard to the story in Monday’s paper (Echo, June 11) about work on a £20m leisure and retail complex in Darlington potentially starting next year.

With what are the powers that be likely to fill the units up with?

At a time when more major retailers and businesses are folding or leaving, surely the purpose of the council is to save what we already have, and prevent any further losses from the town centre – indeed to try and in fill the vacancies.

For the additional retail units, these outlets probably have another unit in the town centre.

Putting another on The Northern Echo Arena site might be at the expense of the town centre one. Think again.
