I THINK your comment column is a little harsh on Phil Neville, the new manager of the England women’s football team (Echo, Jan 30).
I am not a fan of Phil’s but why criticise him for saying that the manager of the England men’s football team carries more prestige than that of the women’s international team? Of course it does and I am sure that, at this point in time, members of the women’s team realise that.
I do not follow the women’s game but I do read that they are doing very well and I wish them continued success.
The men’s game started in the 1860s so the women have a bit of catching up to do.
It is encouraging however to see women officiating at men’s matches but I think our female commentators on ‘Match of the Day’ are going to take a bit of getting used to.
