LORD Justice Thorpe complains of problems posed to the divorce courts by internet-inspired inter-country marriages. There is surely a simple answer: grant custody of the children in every such case to the parent wishing to take them out of this country.

This would raise no objection in the other countries and would leave those embarking upon such marriages in no doubt where they would stand in the event of break-up.

We need to disabuse ourselves of notions that the Britishness of such children outweighs the other, equally honourable, identities they have and that life outside of Britain is barbaric.

This country is far from lacking input from other cultures and gene pools.

Our relations with many other countries might be enhanced if they had more of such input from us.
