RALPH Hughes stated that Tony Blair took Britain to war (HAS, Mar 12). The Prime Minister had no other choice, as terrorists were training in Afghanistan, and Iraq was being ruled by an evil dictator at the time.

Mr Blair does have a lot to answer for, regarding issues like mass immigration and handing British jobs to countries like India, but he must be commended on his stance on the War on Terror.

However, I do agree that we should now bring our troops home, and allow Iraq to sort out its own mess due to the religious divides that corrupt the country.

Christopher Wardell, Darlington.

WHEN it was recently revealed that American soldiers wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan were being treated in mice and cockroach-ridden army hospitals in the US, Army Secretary Francis Harvey resigned.

Now it is revealed that wounded British troops are enduring appalling conditions in hospitals in Britain. Many with mental health problems have to wait months for help. Several wounded have been left to lie for hours in their own faeces.

Will anyone within this joke that passes for a Government show similar courage and resign? I don't think so?

CT Riley, Spennymoor.
