AS a regular reader of Hear All Sides, I have followed the recent correspondence from Durham county councillors during this current purdah period.
I was particularly interested in the way Neil Foster described himself as Labour candidate for Tudhoe, in his response to the letter from Ben Ord (HAS, Apr 17).
My understanding of purdah is that no material should be published which could be viewed as promoting a candidate. But I would consider the letter published on April 19 by Neil Foster is doing exactly that. Talk about blowing your own trumpet and using the press for political gain.
However, Mark Wilkes, the shadow portfolio holder for regeneration at Durham County Council, summed things up succinctly (HAS, Apr 23).
His reference to the new roundabout at Thinford, which is £5m over budget, is a prime example of how Labour councillors regard public money.
