BILL BARTLE comments on CT Riley’s letter about secularism by quoting the horrifying atheistic regimes of Communist Russia, China, and North Korea (HAS, Mar 11).
Though atheistic, these three regimes show some of the characteristics of religions with authoritarian leaders, whose word must always be obeyed without question on pain of, perhaps, death, and books and writings which cannot be questioned.
These characteristics are manifest in religious societies in the Middle East at the present time, and even in some of the Christian faiths.
Mr Riley should have stated secular democratic societies in his letter, then it would have been nearer the truth Eric Gendle, Nunthorpe.
