A READER has written to us with his scathing assessment of the Chancellor's Spring Budget Statement.

"EVERYTHING is going up: gas, electricity, food, drink, clothes, toiletries. But at least the Conservatives have given us suckers a well-deserved monetary leg up with a petrol cut of 5p per litre.

Those 5 pences don’t half add up. I’m spoilt for choice what I’ll spend the extra dosh on.

Yes, the Spring budget was nothing short of pathetic. And from the lips of a Chancellor millionaire, a total insult to hard working folk.

Perhaps the biggest con was the announcement that 30 million workers are going to be quids in - in the year 2024 when the basic rate of tax is set to be cut from 20p to 19p in the pound.

Great if you have access to a time machine, not a lot of good now.

And it’s not nailed on. Remember all those other Tory pre-election promises that were broken like the pensioners’ triple lock and free TV licence. They also swore there’d be no National Insurance increase.

Don’t for one second believe the Tories’ philosophy of jam tomorrow.

They’ve just blown a bit fat raspberry at you.

Stephen Dixon, Redcar.
