US hip hop superstar Snoop Dogg will perform in central Middlesbrough this summer.

The controversial rapper, also known as Snoop Lion, will headline an outdoor concert at the town’s Centre Square on Monday, June 9.

The announcement comes after news that US rap outfit Public Enemy will perform at this year's Stockton Weekender.

Months of work have gone into pulling off Snoop's Middlesbrough date by Teesside-based organisers Loose Cannon.

A spokesman said: “After the success of Olly Murs last year the Loose Cannon team return this summer with a true legend of music.

“Last year’s outdoor show saw 6,000 fans queue for hours to see Olly, supported by Amelia Lily and X Factor finalist Diana Vickers.

“So after months of hard work it is with great pleasure to announce that the legend that is Snoop Dogg will perform at Centre Square in Middlesbrough.”

Multi-platinum selling artist Snoop Dogg has become an entertainment icon in his 20 years in the music industry.

Tickets for the gig went on sale at 9am on Friday, first release will be £27.50, plus booking fee, going up to £32.50. They are also available from the Middlesbrough Town Hall box office.

The show is over-16s only and the line-up of support acts has yet to be released.
