A North-East secondary school today sent an entire year group home after a further confirmed case of coronavirus.

Year 11 pupils at Longfield Academy, in Darlington, are isolating at home from this afternoon and will return to school on Tuesday, November 17.

The decision, taken in consultation with Public Health England, follows a Year 11 pupil testing positive for Covid-19.

Head teacher Nick Lindsay: “All public health guidelines have been strictly adhered to and parents are being kept fully informed.

“Remote learning will be arranged for all the pupils in isolation, and pupils in all the other year groups are unaffected.”

Meanwhile, Year 7 pupils will return to the school tomorrow (Nov 6) as planned following a previous announcement that two pupils had tested positive for coronavirus.

Due to those cases coinciding with the half-term holiday, the Year 7 pupils stayed at home for remote learning between November 3 and 5.
