CHANGES to bus routes in Hartlepool are being proposed in an effort to improve services for passengers.

The Stagecoach North East services are set to be amended following consultation with Hartlepool Borough Council.

The proposed changes follow the introduction of a simplified network of bus services in August last year that aimed to make bus travel much easier for the majority of people in Hartlepool.

This has been reviewed on a monthly basis and now plans are in place to alter routes to services three, four, six and seven and axe service two.

Councillor Peter Jackson, Hartlepool Borough Council’s portfolio holder for transport and neighbourhoods, said: "Our main concern is to ensure that as many people as possible are able to access frequent and reliable bus services.

"Ourselves and Stagecoach have listened carefully to what local people have had to say and we have tried to take on board their comments.

"On the whole, the new network introduced last year has been working very well, but the review has revealed a small number of areas where a "tweaking" of services would benefit the public."

Robin Knight, Stagecoach North East commercial director, said: "We have listened to the view of residents and evaluated ways in which the network could be adapted to try and meet their requirements where possible and appropriate."
