NORTHUMBRIAN Water volunteers have put up the Christmas lights at a North-East children’s charity and donated about 250 festive selection boxes to help put a smile on the faces of the children in the region living with life limiting and life threatening illnesses and conditions.

A team of six volunteers, supported through Northumbrian Water’s employee volunteering programme Just an Hour, teamed up with telecommunication giant BT to help give a lending hand to put up the Christmas lights at Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice in Middlesbrough.

The charity – whhich provides palliative, respite and end of life care to babies and infants aged from birth to five years – has received support from Northumbrian Water for the last four years.

Middlesbrough born Paul Leach, who works as a pipeline solutions manager for Northumbrian Water, said: “It was such a wonderful heartfelt thing to do for this amazing charity, who go over and beyond helping sick children in our region.

“It’s fantastic that our employee volunteer programme helps support local communities and I’d urge anyone with a charitable or community project that are needing some help to get in touch.”

Northumbrian Water’s employee volunteering programme which helps to support local communities and charities has so far helped more than 300 local organisations or groups in 2019.

Sue Fox, corporate fundraiser at children’s charity Zoe’s Place, said: “We are immensely grateful for the support from Northumbrian Water, BT and their volunteers in helping us put up our Christmas lights and donating chocolates for the children.

“We are feeling very Christmassy now and this gesture has put a huge smile on our faces, as well as the children’s and families that we support.”
