A FIRST aid charity will host a life-saving workshop to shoppers in a major supermarket.

St John's Ambulance has joined ASDA to provide advice on how to use defibrillators if an emergency presents itself.

The charity said the workshop will take place at ASDA Skelton.

Alison Stevens, head of schools and community training at St John Ambulance, said: “This workshop is an opportunity for us to teach even more people how to save lives.

"Professionals are not always available straight away in emergencies so it’s important for the public to know how to use a defibrillator when time is critical.

"Having one of these life-saving devices in every Asda store is great, teaching customers to use it is even better.”

The charity claims every ASDA store is equipped with a defibrillator, but said people were not aware how to use it.

Rob Cecere, general manager of Asda Skelton, said: “Defibrillators are important and accessible pieces of equipment, but not enough people know where to find them in an emergency.

"We hope that, by putting on this workshop, more people will understand the devices and be able to use them if the time comes.”

The workshop will take place at 1pm on Wednesday, February 27 and is free for anyone to attend.
