A WINTER loneliness campaign to support people aged 50 and over who live in Middlesbrough and feel lonely and isolated during the winter months has been launched.
Research carried out by Teesside University about evening and weekend loneliness found that people are affected more by loneliness during the winter.
The study was commissioned by Ageing Better Middlesbrough, which is part of the National Lottery funded Ageing Better programme set up by the Big Lottery Fund.
Jayne Anderton, team lead for the outreach team at Ageing Better Middlesbrough, said: “We know that people can struggle to get out during the winter. With dark evenings drawing in and the cold weather making people more vulnerable to illness, higher fuel bills can be worrying too.”
If you or someone you know feels lonely or isolated, lives in Middlesbrough and is 50 or over you can contact Ageing Better Middlesbrough on 01642-257030 or ageingbettermiddlesbrough.org.uk
