CHRISTMAS crafts, free refreshments and children singing carols will be on offer for older residents who are being invited to a community centre this week.
Ageing Better Middlesbrough, a scheme to reduce loneliness among people aged 50 and older in the town, is holding the event at Sunnyside Community Centre in Coulby Newham on Thursday.
The event is also planned for people to help plan the group's future activities. The community centre will open its doors to everyone from 11am to 3pm, with Christmas carols starting at 1.30pm.
Bridget Bowker, Ageing Better Middlesbrough Outreach Worker, said: “We are working with the most lonely and isolated people in Middlesbrough. Part of that work is making sure older people have a say in what is happening in their area and planning activities. A lovely woman who I am working with suggested joining up with the community centre to help put on activities for older people in the area. She wanted to ‘bring people back together, like it used to be’."
