PUPILS have been taking part in theatrical role play to learn all about their school council and how they can make an impact on decisions at their school.
The development days, for students across Redcar and Cleveland, were delivered by ‘Konflux theatre in education’ who use drama to help pupils understand how important their role is on the school council.
Councillor Craig Hannaway, cabinet member for children, said: "As well as providing our children and young people with the opportunity to debate issues and build relationships, they give us so-called grown-ups the information we need about what the children and young people think. Drama is a great medium through which to understand their role on the School Council and gain important skills."
Teacher at Normanby Primary, Kylie Fodden added: "This was a fantastic opportunity for our children to meet with other children to develop their roles as School Councillors. Doing this through the use of drama built confidence and was exciting.”
The aim of the workshops is to increase knowledge of school council’s, build confidence, speaking and listening skills.
