MOTORISTS are being advised of a new traffic order which could close a stretch of road once a month to allow for vital maintenance and litter picking work to be carried out safely.

The new order comes into force tomorrow and will allow Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council to close Flatts Lane for general maintenance, from the Countryside Centre to the junction of the A171, every third Thursday of the month from 10am – noon.

No closure will be implemented if no maintenance work is required to be carried out.

Councillor Bob Norton, the council’s cabinet member for economic growth, said: “It’s vital our staff are able to work in safety while litter picking or making road repairs, so allowing the closure of Flatts Lane is essential. The monthly road closures will only take place when needed and for no more than two hours at any one time.”

The traffic order has been approved as an 18-month trial period and will be reviewed on a monthly basis.
