THE PUBLIC are being asked for their views on how library services should operate in a North East town.

Stockton Council is launching the second part of its consultation on library services and is asking residents for their opinion on proposals regarding future opening hours and locations of libraries throughout the area.

The first stage of the consultation, launched in July 2012, looked at how people use the libraries, what they like about them and what improvements could be made.

Councillor Ken Dixon, Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “We are passionate about our libraries and we understand the support they give to local people. Although we face a substantial reduction in the library service budget we are committed to maintaining the best possible service.

“We know that the Borough’s Library Service is well-liked and well-used - with more than a million visitors last year but the first consultation showed us some libraries are more well used and more efficient than others.”

Residents wishing to have a say on the issues raised should visit Stockton.gov.uk/librariesconsultation or visit their local branch library to fill out a questionnaire. Drop-in sessions are also being held across the area throughout February. For more details, ask a librarian or telephone 01642-524700.
