YOUNGSTERS in Hartlepool are celebrating the transformation of a popular centre.

The West View Project, a not-for-profit organisation which runs a host of activities for those aged eight to 18, has just completed £25,000 of improvements to its premises in Miers Avenue.

The building has been refurbished to create a new games room, a fully-fitted kitchen area, a new television room and new toilet units.

Chris Wise, the project's development manager, said: "Moving our administrative offices gave us the opportunity to free up all the space in the Miers Avenue building specifically for activities for the young people.

"We planned the refurbishment in consultation with the youngsters and have incorporated as many of their suggestions as possible.

"The building is now brighter and more exciting and the layout is now more focused on the young people's needs."

The improvements have been welcomed by the youngsters who regularly attend the centre.

Ten-year-old Tyler Harker said: "It's a big improvement - it's a great place. The best bit is the new air hockey table."

Eight-year-old Hannah Crichton added: "It's excellent - the centre is much brighter, more colourful and more fun.

The games room is the best bit - and the comfy sofas in the TV room."
