CREATIVE students have seen their vision transformed into a stunning steel sculpture to mark the opening of a new store.

The A level Fine Art students at Prior Pursglove College unveiled the work outside the new LIDL supermarket in Guisborough.

The students were involved in a design competition last year, working in groups to prepare a 'Dragon's Den' style presentation to Chris Blyth, LIDL acquisitions manager and Robert Grierson, college vice principal.

The winning team were Jenn Begley, 18 from Middlesbrough, Danni-Louise Parker, 19 from Redcar, Zoe Williams, 19 from New Marske and Jess Appleton, 17 from Marske.

Local blacksmith and artist James Godbold was commissioned to make the sculpture in metal.

The design, named Falling Food, is made up of a carton suspended in mid air pouring out a bounty of foods representing food from around the world.

Vice principal Robert Grierson said: "The standard of creative ideas was exceptionally high and it was very difficult to pick a winner. The winning bid had a quirky uniqueness about it which the judges felt would be a real eye catching addition to our special town."
