HOSPITAL staff are urging people to download the NHS Covid-19 app.

From today, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust will be displaying codes, which can be scanned by the app, in main waiting rooms, coffee shops and restaurants at the University Hospital of North Tees, the University Hospital of Hartlepool and Peterlee Community Hospital, to help trace covid cases.

Anyone going in for an appointment is asked to download the app. For patients without a mobile device, a paper option will be available and volunteers will be on hand to help.

Chief nurse Julie Lane said: "We are asking that anyone visiting our buildings for an appointment scans the relevant barcode and provide their information.

"The more we trace individual cases, the more we are all collectively able to stop the spread of COVID-19 and protect ourselves and our loved ones."

"This system will help slow the spread of the virus and significantly reduce its impact on our day to day lives.”

Visitors will be able to find the barcodes in all main waiting areas in the trust’s hospital buildings.
