A TOWN centre mobility service has some new recruits to help with the Christmas shopping.
Middlesbrough Shopmobility has taken delivery of three new electric scooters for hire by those with mobility problems.
The service, based Middlesbrough Cycle Centre in the Bus Station, now has a fleet of12 scooters for hire from just £1 per hour, available 8am to 6pm weekdays and 9am to 5pm on Saturdays.
The service - run by Middlesbrough Environment City – also has eight wheelchairs and two walkers to enable people to shop independently around town and use other town centre facilities.
Active travel administrator Margaret Tonkin said: “Since we moved to the bus station, demand for the service has continued to grow, so we’re delighted to be able to extend our fleet.
“The scooters are especially popular during the busy Christmas period, and I’m sure our new arrivals will prove a hit with regulars and new users alike.”
