The BBC Good Food magazine have announced their list of Top 10 destination farm shops to visit in the UK and County Durham based Cross Lanes Organic Farm just situated off the A66 near Barnard Castle is one of them.

Owner Peter Coverdale said: "We didn’t know we had achieved this until new customers were coming in and telling us, it’s quite an achievement really. The nearest other businesses in the Top 10 are in Lincolnshire and further north in Scotland.  We have a lot of support from local people but it is nice to have national recognition"

The business has also recently been given a certificate of excellence from the online review company Trip Advisor, where Cross Lanes has maintained a rating of four stars or more based on customer reviews.

Mr Coverdale said "We try our hardest with the presentation and quality of the dishes served in the restaurant, and the fact that the ingredients are local and sustainable, together with working to high hygiene standards all helps. We have a farm shop supporting local producers, full of either locally sourced, ethical or organic products and a butcher counter selling our own and locally sourced meats".

“The team has worked hard, this is not just something that happened, it’s hard work and dedication, I’m very proud of the staff working for us, I couldn’t have asked for better staff”.
