A NEW memorial to commemorate fallen heroes has been unveiled in a town centre in time for Remembrance Sunday.

Ferryhill Town Council had a memorial plaque made and installed in the town hall garden at Ferryhill.

It commemorates Armed Forces personnel who paid the ultimate sacrifice during World War II, and is situated next to the fallen soldier memorial.

Durham County Councillor Joe Makepeace contributed £3,040 from his Neighbourhood Budget Monies via the 4Together Partnership (AAP).

Cllr Makepeace, who is also the current Ferryhill Town Mayor, said: "I am thrilled to have been able to support this project.

"It is important to remember the great sacrifice that our fallen heroes have made."
