A TEENAGER has been crowed champion following a national boxing tournament.

Daniel Grainger – who trains at Bishop Auckland Boxing club – was thrilled after he beat undefeated boxer, Reegan Jackson-Smith at the England Boxing Development Championships.

The championships are organised to give up and coming talent at junior and senior level the opportunity to show their skills.

They took place last week at Banbury, in Oxfordshire, and saw the 15-year-old triumph in the ring when he beat his competition by unanimous decision.

Daniel has been training for about a year at Bishop Auckland Boxing club with the help of club coach, Matty Stephenson.

Mr Stephenson said: "Daniel has came on leaps and bounds since he started training with us.

"When he came to us we had a lot to work with and he has went on to achieve so much by working really hard. I hope he continues to keep fighting brilliantly in upcoming matches."

Boxing enthusiasts will have the chance to see Daniel fight today, Saturday 2, at Tindale Crescent WMC when Bishop Auckland compete against Scotland Select.

The event will see the doors open at 12 noon with the first fight starting at 1pm.

Tickets cost £15 and can be bought on the door or by calling Mr Stephenson on 07972-718793.
