BEER and sausage fans can enjoy a Bavarian-themed party when a town holds its first Oktoberfest.

The event will be held in the atrium at the TCR Hub, on Shaw Bank, Barnard Castle, from 6pm to 11pm this Friday.

Event manager at the venue, Vicky Taylor, said: “Following the huge success of The Teesdale Food and Drink Festival held at the Hub in July the Oktoberfest promises to be another exciting community event for Teesdale."

Beers will include Black Sheep bitter, 54 Degrees lager, McColls IPA and golden ale on tap plus a selection of Wensleydale Brewery bottled beers. Harvey’s Sausages will cook up a selection of Oktoberfest sausages and the Hub kitchen will serve a range of German based snacks and drinks. Wines, spirits and soft drinks will be available.

There will be live music from The Old Age Travellers, followed by Andy Yeadon and Amy Purvis, audience participation is encouraged and there will be spot prizes for the best dressed.

Proceeds go towards running the TCR Hub– providing subsidised community activities such as the outdoor activities, music lessons and community transport.

Tickets are £1 and for over 18s only and should be purchased in advance from the Hub Reception or email

A free shuttle bus will run from the town centre to the venue, times available on the Hub’s Facebook page.
