LUXURY glamping pods could be added to a campsite near Barnard Castle under new proposals.

Mark Tully recently applied to Durham County Council for planning permission to extend the caravan park site at Highside Farm, Bowbank.

This includes five pods which would each offer a kitchen, toilet, shower, living space and bed.

A Design and Access statement cites tourism as a reason for the plans– from walking, cycling and horse riding to sailing, angling and the attractions of the market town and castle.

It adds: “This proposal offers visitors the option to stay in the area in attractive, comfortable and unique accommodation whilst enjoying what the area has to offer.”

Access to the site would be via the existing access from the B6276 and a gravel track would lead to the pods.

A final decision on the plans is expected by early December following consultation, which runs until Thursday, October 31.
