The walkers set of at 9am from the Auckland Way car park and finished around 7pm at the Park Head Country Hotel where they were joined by family and friends.

Councillor Allen said: “Thankfully the conditions for the walk were perfect which was an enormous help. It was challenging but I’m delighted with the result as we have helped raise awareness of these deserving charities. The company we had really helped pass the time more quickly as we chatted along the way.

"I would like to thank all our sponsors who have given so generously, we are expecting to raise at least £1000 for charity. We were heartened by the great support along the route and I would particularly like to thank Bishop Auckland Football club who encouraged fans home and away to contribute to the bucket collection."

Walker and event organiser Mr Waldock added: "It was a great day, resulting in raising money for good causes.”
