CROWDS turned out as cyclists taking part in The Tour of Britain raced through the region on Tuesday.

Stage Four of the race set off from South Shore in Gateshead and made its way through Birtley, Sunniside and Whickham before visiting Chopwell, Shotley Bridge, Snods Edge and Stanhope, finishing on Beast Banks in Kendal.

Riders were greeted by cycling fans and schoolchildren who cheered them on their way as part of the gruelling 106 mile course.
