A COUPLE who met whilst working at a factory have just celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Ronald and Mary Keers, 86 and 83, met at Smart & Brown's, in Spennymoor, and married at St Aidan's Church, in Chilton. They have lived in the village most of their lives– much of that in Mrs Keers' family home with her father and brother after her mother died. They have one daughter, Ann Stonehouse, and now live at Chilton Care Home.

Ms Stonehouse said: "Family has always been so important to them.

"Dad was a big country man, shooting and training dogs. He was a Kennel Club judge for labradors and mam really supported him in that hobby.

"They have always been so close and just grown together."

The couple enjoyed a diamond wedding anniversary party at the home and were visited by Chilton Mayor Elizabeth Bruce.
