THE shadow environment secretary will talk about the issues facing rural communities up and down the country at an event in County Durham today.

North West Durham MP Laura Pidcock will host a public meeting at St Thomas' Church Hall, in Stanhope, Weardale, from 3.30pm to 5.15pm.

She will be joined by the Shadow Secretary of State for the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Sue Hayman MP, who represents the Workington constituency in Cumbria.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Miss Pidcock said: “In a constituency such as North West Durham, which is very rural in parts, there are particular issues that rural communities face– and I take them very seriously.

"So does the Labour Party.

"This is a great opportunity for constituents to hear direct from Sue about our plans for rural communities, the environment and the farming community.

"I am very much looking forward to welcoming her to beautiful Weardale.”

Registration for the meeting is essential.
