A GYMNASTICS club has celebrated the success of two talented youngsters.

Tai Hodgson and Oscar James – both aged eight – were awarded British silver medals after competing in the NDP British gymnastics finals competition in May.

They performed an acrobatic routine to take home second place, narrowly missing out on the gold.

Tai, who attends Stephenson Way school and Oscar, who attends Byerley Park school have both been with the Athena Sports Academy, in Newton Aycliffe, for several years.

Head coach, Brittainy Carruthers said: "Tai and Oscar have really knuckled down and worked hard.

"This was the biggest competition that the boys have taken part in and they should be proud of such a fantastic routine.

Their patience, hard work and commitment has certainly paid off."

The Athena Sports Academy runs seven days a week at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre.

It has a wide range of gymnastics classes suitable for all ages, including baby and toddler sessions.

The club also has extensive development pathways in addition to a floor and vault division and an elite Acrobatic programme.

Prices start at £2.50 per week and the first class is free.
