A DANCE performance will take place to commemorate sacrifices made through war.

Eliot Smith Dance will stage their show 'Poppy' at Spennymoor’s Settlement Everyman Theatre on Saturday, May 18, at 7.30pm.

The performance was choreographed in collaboration with The Royal British Legion to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.

It was choreographed to represent remembrance and hope, as a sea of red poppies was the first sign of life to appear on the devastated battlefields of the Western Front.

The Newcastle-based dance company has previously performed in Paris, Rome and New York.

They hope to take the audience on a spellbinding journey with newly contemporary dance works by award-winning choreographer Rosie Kay, notable dance-maker Mathieu Geffre and Eliot Smith the school's artistic director.

The show was produced to resonate with those in the army and their families.
