A TEAM of youngsters earned gold after taking part in national riding championships.

The dedication of Barnard Castle and Teesdale Riding Club members saw them take victory in the British Riding Club's winter competitions.

It was the club's latest success following the Arena Eventing. Championships where rider Ben Ward placed second in the junior competition.

Fellow members Lia Broomfield, Samantha Morgan, Harriet Hodgson and Ella Gibbon followed his success and took the championship title in the British winter competitions.

The club puts its success down to encouraging riders of all abilities to try their best.

It holds regular flatwork, polework, dressage, and showjumping lessons in the hopes of helping members become better riders.

A spokesperson for the club said their summer league dressage and winter show jumping – organised by Clare Martin – was instrumental in preparing the riders for the competition.
