THE organisers of a town parkrun have praised community spirit after holding their 300th event.

Event directors Diane and Neil Wood marked their 300th run with more than 100 members of the public braving the cold wind to walk, jog or run 5km at 9am.

Hackworth parkrun, in Shildon, recently celebrated it’s 6th birthday.

Mrs Wood said: “The community spirit here is fantastic and we have made friends for life.

“The support that people have for one another is fantastic to see and we are very proud that Hackworth parkrun has reached 300 runs.”

Lee Thompson, 33, took part in the parkrun on Saturday and placed 2nd with a time of 19m and 56s.

The Crook and District Athletics Club runner added: “I run a parkrun every Saturday and I always enjoy coming to this one.

“You don’t have to be a runner to take part, everyone is welcome at a parkrun.”
