A WEIGHT loss support group has raised more than £4,000 for Cancer Research UK after donating old clothes that no longer fit.

The Slimming World groups across South Durham collected 139 bags of clothes, shoes, homeware and accessories as part of the Big Golden Slimming World Clothes Throw.

The bags will be donated to local Cancer Research UK shops as part of the national fundraising campaign. Each of the filled bags is worth around £25 and this year’s campaign is aiming to beat last year's total of £3m..

Since 2012 the partnership has generated more than £12million worth of stock.

Rochelle Holmes, team developer for Slimming World said: "We can't believe how many bags we managed to collect. We knew our members were amazing but didn’t expect such an incredible level of effort. They really do put their heart into everything they do. Whether it’s their weight loss, supporting each other each week or raising money for charity, they continually blow us away."
