A COMMUNITY came together for a litter pick as part of a national campaign.

Members of Spennymoor Town Council collected 32 bags of rubbish with help from residents.

The spring clean was part of the Keep Britain Tidy campaign – a scheme to inspire people to eliminate litter in their area for future generations.

Councillor Clive Maddison said: "What was really pleasing was the fact that we didn’t find any discarded needles, however, there were a lot of empty and smashed glass bottles, and in the front of shops there were lots of receipts thrown on the floor.

"I would like to give a big shout out to Gemma, David, Nic, Becky and Daniel who gave up their Sunday morning to assist the councillors and the town clerk."

The next litter pick will take place in Spennymoor, on Sunday, May 12, between 10am and 12 noon.
