MEMBERS of an autism support group gathered for a walk around Durham earlier this month.

Young and old alike took part in the annual event held by the Autism Parent Support Group County Durham, on April 7.

The group took part in the walk to celebrate their children.

The group was launched nine years ago and has more than 350 families on its Facebook page where families come to support each other offer advice and generally are there for each other.

One of the founders, Louise Brown, who runs the Spennymoor-based group with Haley Richardson, thanked everyone for coming to support the walk.

She said: “We have regular meet-ups in Spennymoor and do various fundraising activities throughout the year. Our main objective is supporting each other and we never want any of our families to feel alone. We are an autism family and we are on this autism journey together. We believe raising awareness is key to autism acceptance which is what we all want for our children.”
