GENEROUS students hosted an afternoon tea to raise funds for a village In Bloom group last week.

Pupils from Highcroft Girls' School, in Cockfield, held the sell-out event at Montieth Parish Hall on Friday March 29, in aid of West Auckland In Bloom.

The girls made all the sandwiches and baked goods for the event which raised more than £400 which will help the group buy planters for West Auckland village green.

West Auckland In Bloom were delighted at the turn out and thanked the girls for their hard work and making it a complete success.

Jean Pattison, of the group, said more than 50 people enjoyed the event.

She said: "We had a brilliant day and it was a sell out. We had lots of raffle prizes donated by people in the area too and all the money went to the group."

Ms Pattison said the group was set up in October and volunteers were working hard to raise funds to install 11 planters around the green - which each cost £330.

"It would be lovely to say thanks to the girls especially as they came up with the idea all by themselves," she added. "The girls said they would like to come plant them."
