CHILDREN, staff and governors at Montalbo Nursery and Primary School, in Barnard Castle, have received recognition for their excellent work in Science and Maths this term.

Firstly, they received the Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM). PSQM is recognised by Ofsted as an effective mechanism to raise the profile of science in primary schools, improve teachers’ confidence and ability to teach science and have a positive impact on pupils’ performance, their engagement and enjoyment.

Following this good news, the school received a letter from Damian Hinds, MP for their very high achievement in Key Stage2 mathematics, where 100 per cent of children reached or exceeded the expected standards, putting the school in the top 1 per cent of primary schools in England. This is the second year running that the school has achieved this.

Montalbo has had an increased focus on STEM activities and run after school clubs in both Technology and Engineering, as they develop children’s interests, knowledge and skills to prepare them for the future.
