YOUNGSTERS at a primary school were given the chance to explore culture in celebration of Chinese New Year.

Early year pupils from St Anne's CE Primary School, in Bishop Auckland, visited the Panda Panda Chinese restaurant in the town to try delicacies from the country and celebrate the Chinese year of the pig.

About 60 pupils from the school visited the restaurant and were taught about traditions similar and different to those they had been brought up with.

Assistant Head at the school, Ellen Taylor said the children enjoyed the day and learnt a lot from the event.

She said: “It was a magical experience for the children because they had never seen anything like it before.

“A lot of them had never been to a Chinese restaurant and didn’t know much about the culture. It is always great for them to learn about different lifestyles in different countries, we are always trying to teach the children about diversity.

"Our pupils got a lot from the day as staff at the restaurant were great and really included the children. I think they loved it."
