A TEESDALE community stalwart is preparing to launch his show after setting up his own theatre company.

Mike Bettison, of Bowes, is involved with many projects across the Dale including the Cream Tees and Music at the Heart of Teesdale projects as well as being chairman of Bowes Village Hall and Bowes Carnival.

However, residents can see him in yet another role – that of director of Blaize, his own theatre company. Over the past few weeks he has been rehearsing a visiting professional cast of four in Bowes Village Hall for the production of Joan and Jimmy.

The musical drama explores the relationship between revolutionary theatre director, Joan Littlewood and her one-time husband Jimmy Miller.

The play will open in Bowes Village Hall on February 28, at 7.30pm. Doors open at 7pm.

Mr Bettison said: “I’m thrilled that Joan and Jimmy will be opening in my home village of Bowes before it embarks on a busy tour of rural venues throughout the North of England during March.”

Tickets are £10 for adults, £9 for those unwaged and £5 for students. They are available by calling 01833-628343 or emailing bettison@bowes.onyxnet.co.uk
