A SCHOOL commended for its teaching has become one of 32 across the UK selected to help others achieve success.

St Michael’s Primary School in Bishop Middleham, near Sedgefield, will work with schools in the area to ensure they are teaching reading to the highest standard.

The school was chosen as one of the government's new English Hubs by Ofsted and the Department of Education (DfE) because of its exemplary methods and outstanding reputation.

Headteacher Lindsey Vollans said: "I am really proud of all the hard work and time the teachers have put in and I am glad the school has been recognised for its work.”

The school will provide workshops and open days for fellow schools over an 18-month period.

Specialist literary teachers will also be identified to act as experts in early language and reading for early years pupils.
