A RUNNING group is branching out to inspire women to exercise and feel confident in their own skin.

The Sisters R Doing it club – which is open to females only – has over 30 start ups in County Durham and is set to launch a new beginner group in Newton Aycliffe.

Coach Emma Campbell-Critchley said the group is important as provides an outlet for women in an environment where they feel comfortable and supported.

She said: “It really helps people who feel insecure about their bodies because it's a safe space.

“The majority of people come to lose weight and increase their level of fitness but there’s also a great social side to it as well. We do lots of things together and celebrate the runners’ achievements. It's great how supportive everyone is.”

The 10-week programme is designed to teach runners techniques which will allow them to compete in a final three-mile run.

Membership is £25 for adults and £20 for girls under 16.

The group will be taking on new members on February 18, at Newton Aycliffe Youth and Community Centre.

More information about joining the group and their upcoming events can be found by visiting @sistersrdoingit on Facebook.

The first session is an enrolment night to help those interested feel confident about getting started.
