ORGANISERS of Newton Aycliffe’s annual celebration of miniature railways are gearing up for the tenth anniversary edition.

Newton Aycliffe Rotary Club will host the Annual Model Railway Exhibition in Newton Aycliffe Youth and Community Centre from 10am to 5pm om Saturday, March 9. This year Heel and Toe and The Railway Children charities will benefit from the event which promises at least 20 layouts from “n” to “0” scales representing locations from the UK and Europe.

A spokesman said: “Of special interest will be a new European “TT” scale layout and for the very young, a self-drive Thomas and Friends layout from Shildon Model Railway Club.”

There will also be traders selling new and pre-owned model railway items along with die-cast models, scenery, photographs and books.

Four full-size preservation societies will be lending their support while other enthusiasts will be manning a tombola staff and serving refreshments.

  • Entry costs £5 for adults, £4 for concessions and 50p for children. There are family tickets available at £10.
  • Free parking will be available at St Mary’s RC Church just yards from the event.
  • There is full disabled access and refreshments will be available.
