YOUNG people have been enjoying summer adventures thanks to an £1,880 grant.

The 1407 Newton Aycliffe Squadron Air Cadets was awarded the funding by Great Aycliffe and Middridge Area Action Partnership to deliver adventure training. As well as offering camping trips and climbing experiences to all cadets, the grant has helped pay for Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions.

It has also allowed the squadron to buy essential equipment including tents, stoves and waterproof clothing.

Flight Lieutenant Karin Scott, said: The equipment is being well used and is very much appreciated by the cadets.”

Children in year eight and above, up to the age of 17, can join the Air Cadets and experience a range of exhilarating activities, including flying, gliding, target shooting, hill walking, rock climbing, mountain biking, camps on RAF stations and various sports. Cadets can also gain recognised awards and certificates including Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards and BTECs, while gaining leadership and teamwork skills, boosting their confidence and making new friends.
