A TABLE tennis club is holding special open evening as part of a nationwide celebration of the sport.

Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club is running the free community event on Wednesday, July 18, from 6pm to 9pm.

The event, at the table tennis centre within Bishop Barrington School, will be an opportunity to play games, take part in fun table tennis challenges, see the table tennis robot in action and get top tips from the club’s coaches.

It is open to everyone, from beginners to more experienced players wishing to return to the game after a break.

Bats and balls will be provided at the event, which coincides with National Table Tennis Day.

Matthew Porter, club chairman, said: “The aim of our open day is show the local community that the club is about table tennis for everyone and you don’t have to be a good player to come and enjoy the sport and the facility.

“We want everyone in the area to be able to enjoy table tennis and what the club offers. So come on down and have some fun playing table tennis.”

Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club runs sessions every night of the week for people of all ages and abilities and new players are always welcome.
