A CRAFT group showcased its skills and a new boiler at an open day.

Wearhead Clippy Mat Group demonstrated the traditional techniques used at a special session last week. Visitors, including youngsters from Wearhead Primary School, could also ask questions and have a go themselves.

The group also proudly showed off their new boiler, funded by a £100 grant from Councillor Anita Savory’s Weardale Area Action Partnership Neighbourhood Budget.

Val Greenbank said it would help the group to dye fabrics for the mats, adding: “The material used for the mats is donated so being able to dye cloth to the colours we want means that we can create mats to our own design.”

Councillor Savory said:”Keeping traditional crafts alive is important for the culture of the Dale.”

The group meets at Wearhead Village Hall on Wednesday, from noon to 3pm. New members and commissions are always welcome.
